Earth Hour 2009

Shah Alam, Saturday March 28, 2009 - Concorde Hotel Shah Alam, the award-winning international-class business and conventions hotel participated in Earth Hour 2009 where non-essential lights within the property were turned off for one hour which started from 8.30pm.

The campaign, which hoped to reach out to more than one billion people in 1000 cities around the world, encourage individuals, businesses and governments to switch off lights for just one hour at the pre-determined time to convey their support for action on climate change. Concorde Hotel Shah Alam joins Earth Hour participants around the globe which includes Los Angeles, Las Vegas, London, Hong Kong, Sydney, Rome, Manila, Oslo, Cape Town, Warsaw, Lisbon, Singapore, Istanbul, Mexico City, Toronto, Dubai and Copenhagen.

Lights that were switched off were replaced by tea-lights strategically placed in the corners and walkways to transform the normally brightly-lit Lobby into a relaxed, dimmed-down approach. Certain guests who were present at the lobby during the start were a little bemused that the lights were switched off and later became appreciative of the hotel’s participation. Business at the restaurants carried on as usual with tea-lights creating a romantic atmosphere throughout the entire hotel. Lights resumed after a short hour at 9.30pm
